Cameron Jibril Thomaz (born September 8, 1987), better known by his stage name Wiz Khalifa, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He released his debut album, Show and Prove, in 2006, and signed to Warner Bros. Records in 2007. His Eurodance-influenced unmarried "Say Yeah" received urban radio airplay, charting on the Rhythmic Pinnacle xl and Hot Rap Tracks charts in 2008, becoming his first minor hit.[2]

Thomaz parted with Warner Bros. and released his second album, Deal or No Bargain, in Nov 2009. He released the mixtape Kush and Orangish Juice as a gratuitous download in April 2010; he and then signed with Atlantic Records.[3] Thomaz then adopted a more radio-friendly, pop-oriented approach with his debut single for Atlantic, "Blackness and Yellow". The vocal, a tribute to his hometown of Pittsburgh, debuted at number 100 and somewhen peaked at number i on the Billboard Hot 100. The song became the lead single for his 3rd album Rolling Papers, which was released in March 2011, and also had the Elevation 40 singles "Roll Upward" and "No Slumber".[four]

The anthology's success was followed up with O.Northward.I.F.C. in December 2012, which was backed by the singles "Work Hard, Play Hard" and "Think You" (featuring the Weeknd). Wiz released his fifth anthology Blacc Hollywood in August 2014, backed by the lead single "We Dem Boyz". In March 2015, he released "See You lot Again" (featuring Charlie Puth) for the soundtrack of the picture show Furious 7 and the song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 not-consecutive weeks.[v]

Early on life

Khalifa was born Cameron Jibril Thomaz on September 8, 1987 in Minot, North Dakota to parents serving in the military.[2] [half-dozen] His parents divorced when Khalifa was nearly three years old. He opened for Wu-Tang Clan member U-God at the 2009 CMJ Music Marathon in New York City. Khalifa released the mixtape Fire Subsequently Rolling on November ii, 2009, where he raps over familiar beats from other artists, including the songs "If I Were A Male child" and "Diva" past Beyoncé, "Walking on a Dream" by Empire of the Sun, "Luchini AKA This Is It" by Army camp Lo, and "Best I Ever Had" by Drake.[20] Khalifa released his second album, Deal or No Deal, on November 24, 2009.[21]

Khalifa confirmed to MTV on July 30 that he was signing an Atlantic Records deal.[27]

Khalifa was featured in a remix and video for the 2010 Rick Ross single "Super Loftier", alongside Curren$y.[28] He guested on the mixtape Grey Goose, Head Phones, and Thirsty Women by St. Louis rapper M.C,[29] and was featured on the track "The Breeze (Cool)" on rapper Wale'due south August 2010 mixtape More than Most Nothing.[30] Khalifa was named MTV's Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010, winning with virtually seventy,000 votes, and beating out finalists Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Travis Porter, and Diggy Simmons.[31]

On March 29, 2011, Khalifa released his kickoff studio anthology, Rolling Papers in the US.[39] The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, with first-week sales of 197,000 copies in the United States.[xl] On March 31, 2011 Wiz Khalifa performed at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia as office of the school'due south almanac Dooley'south Weekend. On June 26, 2011, Khalifa was nominated and won All-time New Creative person at the BET Awards of 2011.[41]

Khalifa collaborated with British rapper Tinie Tempah. The EP featured seven new songs.[49] On June 24, 2013, he announced that his 5th studio album would be titled Blacc Hollywood and would be released in 2013.[50] On September iii, 2013, Khalifa revealed he had recorded songs with Miley Cyrus and Juicy J for Blacc Hollywood.[51] In October 2013, Mannie Fresh confirmed that he provided production for the album.[52]

On February 11, 2014, Khalifa released Blacc Hollywood 'south first unmarried titled "Nosotros Dem Boyz". On March 31, 2015, Wiz Khalifa released an EP with boyfriend Taylor Gang artist Ty Dolla $ign, Talk About It in the Morning.[53] That same month, Khalifa and Charlie Puth released the song "Run across You Again", a tribute to Paul Walker, who died during filming for Furious 7.[5]

After releasing several "Weedmixes" on SoundCloud, including "Ziplocc"[54] and "Maan!",[55] Wiz took to Twitter to create hype about his new mixtape, 28 Grams, which was due to be released on May 25, 2014. However, Wiz was arrested in El Paso, Texas for marijuana possession the twenty-four hour period before, and there were fears that the mixtape would be pushed back. Afterward posting a "jail selfie" and hashtagging "FreeTrapWiz" on Twitter, he was released hours later, meaning the mixtape would go ahead with its intended release date.

On January 23, 2015, Khalifa was featured on a remix release of the Fall Out Boy song "Uma Thurman". On May eighteen, they performed the song together on the 2015 Billboard Music Awards prove.[56] In the summer of 2015, he began touring the United States with Fall Out Boy and Hoodie Allen in a tour titled "The Boys of Zummer Tour".[57] [58] [59] [60] The tour featured performances of "Uma Thurman" by Autumn Out Boy and Khalifa. In 2016, Khalifa sued former manager Benjy Grinberg and Rostrum Records considering of a "360 deal" that he signed which he claimed was unfair.[63] Khalifa is seeking $1 meg in compensation as well as punitive damages and attorney fees. He and Grinberg split after 10 years of partnership.[63]

On April 20, 2020, Khalifa released a new EP, The Saga of Wiz Khalifa. The album included collaborations with Tyga, Logic, Mustard and Ty Dolla $ign.[64]

In May 2020, Khalifa featured on a new song, Drums Drums Drums with Travis Barker.[65]

In 2021, Khalifa competed in flavour five of The Masked Singer as "Chameleon". He finished in third place.

Personal life

Khalifa began dating model Amber Rose in early 2011. They got engaged on March 1, 2012,[66] [67] and married on July 8, 2013.[68] They take i son, Sebastian Taylor (built-in 2013).[69] On September 24, 2014, it was announced that Rose would be filing for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.[70] As of 2015, Khalifa and Rose accept articulation custody of their son.[71]

Khalifa began training in the martial art Brazilian jiu-jitsu in May 2017 with Rigan Machado, an 8th degree red and black belt.[75] [76] Shortly afterward, he began training in Muay Thai with one-time UFC bantamweight title contender Cat Zingano and at the Unbreakable Performance Heart in Los Angeles.[77] [78] On Apr 24, 2018, Yokkao hosted a private Muay Thai seminar with Thai battle fable Saenchai for Khalifa at Unbreakable.[79] [80]

Honors

Pittsburgh City Council declared 12-12-12 (December 12, 2012) to be Wiz Khalifa Day in the city.[7] Khalifa graduated from Pittsburgh'south Taylor Allderdice High School[7] and in January 2012, purchased a domicile in nearby Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.[81] [82]
